In the fall you will hear and see the Viking Marching Band performing at home football games and marching band invitational.  The Viking Marching Band has been competing in Scholastic Marching Band Invitationals since 2014 and has consistently placed in the top 3 at most of their outings.  In 2019 the Marching Band earned 1st Place at both the Hastings and Grand Haven Marching Invitational in class D also taking home trophies for many caption awards.  The HS Marching Band has earned a Division 1 rating at MSBOA Festival since 2016. You will also be able to see the marching band in our annual Homecoming Parade, the Lights On Christmas Parade, and the Memorial Day Parade in Bangor and Breedsville.

The HS Concert Band is the premier group of the Bangor Band Program. The concert band focuses on beautiful tone production accompanied with expressive playing to enlighten the listeners musical experience.  The Concert Band prides itself on high ratings at the MSBOA District Band and Orchestra Festival and has earned a Division 1 ratings at MSBOA District Concert Festival since 2015.  During the 2018-2019 school year, the HS Concert Band earned a Division 1 rating at MSBOA State Concert Festival with all of the judges scoring the ensemble with the highest remarks. The HS Concert Band has many of its members participate in MSBOA District and State Solo and Ensemble each year.  Many of the students also have successful auditions for the MSBOA District 6 All Start HS Honors Band.

The MS Concert Band, 7/8th Grade, is also thriving.  With approximately 65 members from year to year, the main goal of this ensemble is to refine basic techniques, peruse advance techniques, and  expand the knowledge of ensemble techniques and procedures.  During the 2018-2019 school year and for the first time in over 10 years, the MS Concert Band earned a Division 1 at both MSBOA District and State Concert Festivals.  The MS Concert Band also has many members who participate in MSBOA MS Solo and Ensemble in the Fall and Spring as well as MSBOA District 6 All Star MS Honors Band.

The band program begins in 5th grade for Bangor students.  Each year the students get a chance to try out an instrument that would work for them.  During 6th grade our band students refine their beginning band skills and begin to expand their ranges and technical abilities.  The first concert each year for these two bands is our annual Holiday Concert.  The 5th and 6th grade students also participate in a Solo Festival Hosted by the Bangor Band Program where they perform in front of judges during the month of March.  Their final performance of the year is at our Spring Concert.

The newest addition to the Bangor Band Program is our MS and HS Jazz Bands.  These ensemble have met during the school day since Fall of 2016.  The students who sign up for the Jazz Band get to learn all about jazz performance, technique, jazz artist, jazz style, and jazz history.  Each year the Jazz Bands participate in local Jazz Festivals including the MSBOA District 6 Jazz Festival and the Thornapple Arts Council Jazz Festival.  You are also able to hear the Jazz Bands through out the town of Bangor at various events including the Snow Ball.

During the summer you will hear music coming from the hallways as the Bangor Summer Band rehearses.  This is an "extra" group with intentions of keeping the students playing all year long.  They will meet once a week and give a performance on the lawn.  It is open to all current band members and neighboring schools.  Many times you will also find parents dusting out their instruments and playing along.  It is a great opportunity for Alumni to work with current band students.

The band travels each year around the state of Michigan participating in events.  The band has also performed at Walt Disney World in Orlando Florida in 2016 and has a performance coming up Spring Break 2020.  The band program has been under the direction of Tianna Doe since Fall of 2010.  Through the years, Mrs. Doe has received multiple recognition for her accomplishments and teaching.  In 2015, Mrs. Doe was presented with the Hometown Hero Award from Modern Woodmen Fraternal Financial, in 2017 she was awarded the Valued Viking Award presented by Bangor Public Schools, in 2018 she was presented with the Educational Hero Award by the Van Buren County ISD, and in 2019 she received the MSBOA District 6 Teacher of the Year.
