Bangor School Based Health Center, located in Bangor Middle School, provides health care services to youth ages 5 to 21 who live in or go to school in Bangor. The Health Center provides primary care, preventative care, comprehensive health assessment, immunizations, treatment of acute illness and minor injury, health education and mental health counseling. Services are provided to youth with parent/guardian consent and at no cost to patients. The Health Center is staffed by licensed medical and mental health professionals and is open year-round. Counseling services are also provided on site at South Walnut Elementary.
School-based health centers increase access to basic health care for children where they typically spend most of their time – in school; and are based on the belief, supported by research, that “healthy kids learn better”. Maintaining or Improving the health of children, supporting healthy decision making through adolescence and promoting school success are all goals of the health center program.
