Theatre in Bangor

Bangor High School has a growing theatre program. We produce two shows each year; a musical in the fall and a play in the spring. These shows are open to any BHS or CEC student, and depending on the show, we may even accept middle and elementary school students. Future plans include expanding our schedule to include a middle school performance late spring and an alumni show in the summer.

In addition to the performances, Bangor offers both acting & directing and technical theatre classes. Acting students learn the foundational techniques of acting by Hagen, Meisner and Stanislavski. Students learn to work in an ensemble and to perform character scenes in pairs and monologues. Students also learn basic movement and dance. Advanced students are given the opportunity to direct their classmates in small scenes and one-act plays. Improvisation is also addressed.

Technical Theatre students learn the basics of design for costume, hair & makeup, lighting, sound and set. They learn basic drafting and sewing skills as well as basic construction. Additionally students learn marketing, management and dramaturgy. Advanced students will have the opportunity to incorporate their designs into current productions.

For all classes, students get to meet and learn from working experts in the field and college department representatives. They also have a chance to travel to see colleges perform their own shows.

Show Choir is the final part of the Theatre department. In this class, students learn the basics of music theory, learn to sing in parts and at increasingly challenging levels. They blend vocals with dance and character to perform exciting themed shows. This class competes in Solo & Ensemble and Choir festivals through MSVMA and travels to compete in show choir competitions and festivals throughout the year.
